The “Hottest MCs in the Game” is back! It’s highly regarded, extremely controversial and bolder than ever. We’re proud to announce that starting next Monday (August 17), we’ll begin to reveal our list of hip-hop’s top 10 kings of 2009 on MTVNews.com. This one is going to be a doozy!
As always, the MTV News Hip-Hop Brain Trust has been keeping a close collective eye and ear to the game. We’ve been watching who’s been moving the needle on the culture, who has impacted the game with superior skill, unmatched style and uncannily superior execution with their art and business. It’s not just music — it’s about a movement. The Brain Trust sequestered ourselves and deliberated a ranking, and the results will begin to be revealed next week — with the unveiling of the top spot happening on Diddy’s “Making His Band” airing August 24 at 10 p.m.
For the MCs who think they belong on the list, ask yourselves the same questions the Brain Trust members ask themselves: Has your heat been sustaining? You can’t just be hot in your ‘hood or in your region. Does your reach go national — and international? Can you set the globe on fire?
Last year, thousands and thousands joined in on the conversation we first sparked in 2007. Last year was Kanye West’s time: He took the crown from the champ of two years ago, Lil Wayne. ‘Ye killed guest spots such as Young Jeezy’s “Put On,” and his Graduation was the opus of its time.
In 2009, we want you to put up and definitely not shut up. Let your frustrations or your props be heard. Each time we reveal another pick on our list, comment on it. Send e-mails, send video — we’re going to put lots of it out there. And today, blast off! We want you to start sending in your lists — but be sure you’re talking about the Hottest MC right now, not of all time (we already gave Jay-Z that trophy a couple of years back). There’s a poll below with names of certain selected MCs: All you have to pick the name you feel is the hottest right now. The results will be tabulated. So get to it!
I just got around to posting this, so everyone, let’s go and make Wayne number 1! It also looks like there has been a bit of cheating going on as Joe Budden seems to have a lot more votes than everyone else

if we counting hottest lets be real who else can it be. FRom the last poll when Kanye won( don’t know hw that happened) but he did to now…Lil wayne has had a multi-platinum selling album the best selling in a while with Tha Cater III… That why he lost they said he didnt deliver an album so he did.. He did a hell of alot of features… brings out the next hottest thing (Drake) has three top songs on the billboard top 100 all in the top ten ( Every Girl, Best I ever Had and Down oh yea Always strapped)…He is exanding his audience by attemoting a rock album.. He does sports center….the view… 60 minutes and wins 4 out of 8 grammies ..he was aslo nominated for the most.. A rapper thats crazy..And in all of this he had th bigges tour of 2008..I am music.. and one oft the biggest of 2009 the AMW… He is on KiDD rocks abum, fabolous, rick ross, i mean u ame it he was on it. I can’t compreend how Joe Budden and 50 Cent are taking the top spots.
I couldn’t even name a recent Joe Budden record.
Hell, I only know of two of them, “Pump It Up” and some joint on Def Jam: FFNY.
This poll is bullshit.
The only way I can imagine Joe Budden and 50 Cent taking the lead is if the poll they have set up counts every vote placed, even if they’re repeat votes.
Even if that’s the case, I don’t know who honestly believes Joe Budden is the hottest MC.
This isn’t even the best MC category, this is hottest. If you asked 100 people about Joe Budden, maybe 20 would know who you’re talking about.
