No one is more disappointed that Lil Wayne is jailed on gun charges than the cop who saved the rapper’s life 15 years ago after an accidental shot to the chest.

“It’s sad to see somebody get involved with guns like that – any kid, no matter who they are,” said Robert Hoobler, a New Orleans Police Department cop for two decades.

“I’m sorry to see that happened to him, but at least he admitted to what happened and took his medicine,” said Hoobler, 53, who now works for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Hoobler is more of an AC/DC and Metallica fan, but he has genuine affection for Lil Wayne.

They crossed paths in 1994 when Lil Wayne was a seventh grader living in New Orleans’ rough Hollygrove neighborhood. A call came in for shots fired, and Hoobler and other cops rushed to the address.

“We heard loud music the first time, but nothing the second time – just a little voice moaning for help,” Hoobler said.

The cops kicked in the door and found Lil Wayne covered in blood. He had dragged himself from the bedroom to the front of the apartment, leaving a bloody trail.

There were no ambulances immediately available, so Hoobler cradled Lil Wayne in his arms as they raced in a police cruiser to the nearest hospital.

That saved the rapper’s life, doctors said.

Lil Wayne has acknowledged Hoobler’s heroics in person and in the press and he’s become a a bit of a local celebrity, recognized from a VH1 “Behind the Music” special. At the school where the cop’s grandkids attend, children ask for autographs.

Just last week, Hoobler bought his first Lil Wayne album and he has been listening to it on a boom box in his police cruiser after work.

“Now that I finally got a hold of his new CD, and see that it really turned out good, I hope he makes more of them,” he said.

“The T-Wayne album, we’re actually gonna wait until he gets out,” Pain said about Weezy’s jail time. “He has so much going on. He has Rebirth out right now. I don’t wanna interrupt that. We just gonna wait until he gets out to really get in on that. We recorded a bunch of songs. But, right now, it’s time for him and his personal shit. We definitely got an album’s worth of material, but it’s only an album’s worth. It’s nothing to pick from. We just got an album. We can put out whatever we feel like and say, ‘Hey, this is T-Wayne’s album,’ or we can actually try to make it good. “It happens, man,” the singer said. “People go to jail. That’s something he’s gotta go through. I’m happy it’s not fucking 10 years. That’s just something that’s going on. I know his commissary [prison store] is ridiculous. He’s got so much money in his commissary. You think Baby is gonna let him sit up in there and eat Doritos? Wayne got [his food] coming with steaks. … I know what’s going on there.

“Young Money is still there also. He’s in the studio 24/7,” Pain added. “It’s gonna be like Tupac. You still gonna get 1,000 songs from Wayne. You ain’t gonna miss nothing. It’s gonna be like he never went to jail. I’m pretty sure they’re gonna put out a gang of songs. I’m pretty sure they’re gonna do a ‘Free Lil Wayne‘ campaign. That’s how it goes.”

The time has finally come for Lil Wayne… he got sentenced to one year in jail earlier today at around 2PM. As previously reported, Wayne’s sentencing got delayed a couple of times due to dental surgery and a fire. If Weezy maintains good behavior inside prison, his sentence can be shortened to up to eight months which would mean he would be out later this year. Lil Tunechi’s very last tweet on his twitter account reads: “Law is mind without reason. ……………..I’ll return”, and here is an update from today inside the Manhattan courthouse courtesy of J-Rod: “Lil Wayne didn’t speak in the court room, but nodded that he understood the charges. Then he nodded again to Birdman as police cuffed him”.

Even though we won’t be seeing Wayne for a while, we will still be getting new music and music videos from him throughout his time in prison. He shot around 30 to 40 music videos before his jail sentence and some of the music videos we can be looking forward to are: “Steady Mobbin’” and “Single” from the No Ceilings mixtape. Also, I’m not 100% sure, but Wayne might be able to use his Twitter while in prison to keep his fans updated.

We finally have the official music video for Lil Wayne’s next single off his rock album, Rebirth called “Drop The World” featuring Eminem. This was suppose to premiere on March 11th, but it looks like it ‘leaked’ early. This video was directed by Chris Robinson and you can watch a behind the scenes video here. Weezy is wearing his “Listen To Lil Wayne” t-shirt again, and don’t forget to buy your copy of Rebirth if you haven’t done so already!
