Eleven days ago, we posted an article saying that Lil Wayne plead guilty to drug charges in Arizona via a video feed and now it looks like Weezy can relax a bit more. Today, an Arizona court sentenced Tunechi to three years of probation which means he will not face any more time behind bars once he gets released from Rikers Island later this year. Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., was spared time in an Arizona jail under a plea deal stemming from his January 2008 arrest at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint in the state.

Under the deal, the 30 27-year-old Grammy winner pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a dangerous drug. Three other drug and weapons charges were dismissed.

Wayne appeared in court via a video hookup from New York, where he has been jailed since March after pleading guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon.

James Tilson, Carter‘s Arizona attorney, said he was pleased with the court’s action.

“We’re quite glad that we were able to wrap everything up,” Tilson told Reuters. “It’s a favorable plea agreement that will allow Mr. Carter to pursue his career.”

Carter will begin his Arizona probation following his New York sentence, Tilson said.

The rapper’s tour bus, carrying 11 others, was stopped and searched by Border Patrol authorities after they said they were alerted by a drug-sniffing dog. Agents found nearly four ounces of marijuana, an ounce of cocaine, 41 grams of Ecstasy and a .40-caliber pistol registered to Carter.

This is great news and should let Wayne get back on with his life. Unfortunately him receiving three years of probation may prevent him from leaving the country, which means no international tour

In another clip sent exclusively to MTV News by Weezy and his trusted videographer, we see Wayne as he learns of his sentencing delay. The clip begins with Wayne stepping off a private jet and walking into a waiting van. Later Weezy leaves his hotel, riding toward Manhattan — while in the Lincoln Tunnel, Weezy‘s road manager E.I. informs him there’s been a fire at the court building.

“There’s been a fire in the court. I have one more day of freedom. For now, y’all keep it real, ’cause I will,” Wayne said.

“I’m ready. I’m all smiles,” he continued, pointing to his teeth. “They can’t break my strength. They can only lock me up physically. They can’t lock up my mind. They can’t lock up my heart. They can only take my time because the law allows them to. Time is precious, but love is life. So therefore in the end my love will prevail.” – MTV

Video director David Rousseau said he and the Cash Money team might need to check the Guinness Book of World Records: He and his company Creativeseen may be the new record-holders for most music videos shot in 48 hours.

Cash Money chiefs Ronald “Slim” Williams and his brother Brian (a.k.a. Baby, a.k.a. The Birdman) enlisted Rousseau to shoot nine videos for Lil Wayne during Friday, Saturday and parts of Sunday. The director said he and his crew started setting up for the production around 9 a.m. Friday and the last camera stopped rolling at around 8 a.m. on Super Bowl Sunday.

“We shot some shit from the [We Are Young Money compilation] album, we shot something from [Wayne's forthcoming] Tha Carter IV. Some stuff from [Wayne's recent LP] Rebirth,” the director told MTV News on Tuesday (February 9), before Wayne’s sentencing was postponed. “We knew what our deadline was. We’re trying to get maximum coverage for Wayne. Most of the time we only shot Wayne’s verses — we’ll finish the rest of the videos off in the next couple of weeks.

Rousseau, who had previously directed the soon to be released Young Money video “Roger That” and the recently released Kevin Rudolf/ Wayne/ Birdman/ Jay Sean collaboration “I Made It (Cash Money Heroes),” said the Williams brothers contacted him two weeks ago about his huge task.

“We were put on hold,” Rousseau tells. “Cash Money said, ‘This is our deadline. This is a hard deadline.’ It was basically a ‘Mission: Impossible’ [scenario]: This is your mission if you choose to accept it. Everybody is on board because everybody knows what’s at stake. Unlike T.I. and some of these other guys that’s disappeared while they were in, the point is to keep Wayne [visible] on TV and everything for whatever time he’s in. There was a plan in action. Slim and Baby really could foresee that. He’s at the height of his career, you can’t let that momentum slip.”

Some of the videos that were shot over the weekend were “Da Da Da,” “Knockout” and “Get a Life” from Rebirth and a brand new Weezy song from the highly anticipated Carter IV. “Da Da Da” features the rock band !Mayday! — which performed at Wayne’s “farewell” party on Sunday night — and was shot on location at the Marlin Hotel in Miami. The rest of the clips were filmed at the New Art studio in North Miami in front of a green screen and white background, so footage can be added later.

“There isn’t a title for it,” Rousseau said of the Carter IV song. “Honestly, I can’t tell you too much about it. That was a complete secret. We had to kick everyone off the set for it. No photography, even their official photographer had to leave. That’s under wraps. The album is still under production. It’s a crazy song.”

Rousseau did divulge that the video from Tha Carter IV record would have parts of performance as well as a storyline, as does the video for “Knockout.”

“We got some concepts,” the director said about what we can expect from the videos. “Cash Money came to the table with certain rough concepts. We went off that. In the next couple of weeks, we’ll figure out what we got; ‘Let’s take this over here, let’s take this over there.’ At the end of the day, what it comes down to is making sure you got Wayne in the can. There’s rough ideas for everything. They may not be completely sculpted out, but there is a plan. Nothing is done, just to do it. Everything was pre-thought, whether it be by Baby or Slim or Wayne himself. They’re in the loop. As a label they were prepped.”

Along with the Cash Money/ Young Money family, Juelz Santana, Yo Gotti and boxer Sugar Shane Mosley came out for the shoots.

“We tried to keep it wide, medium, close-up, just him vibing. Then we let him go change clothes,” Rousseau said about the different shots in the videos. “Then other people would come in for 30 minutes. Wayne would come back out, same thing; wide, medium, close-up. Then we bring out somebody else who is on the song, Nicki Minaj, Sean Garrett, Baby, Tyga. Then again, 35 minutes [later] Wayne would come out. The only way to keep him fresh is [doing it] like a basketball team. You know, you can’t give your starter too many minutes: You got him for 35 minutes on the court, outfit change. It was a tight schedule. We shot 16, 18 hours [at a day]. He was there the whole time. He was a trooper.

“He was in a zone,” Rousseau continued. “He was ready. It was a work mentality. He’s getting prepared for everything that’s about to happen to him. He knows it’s the fourth quarter. He was completely cooperative, and completely professional.”

Besides the aforementioned videos, Weezy told Westwood that he recently shot four in Los Angeles, one in Dallas and has “been shooting” in Atlanta as well. Those videos include Rebirth’s “Drop the World” (with Eminem) as well as “Roger That” and “Girl I Got You” from Young Money LP. He also filmed “WTF” with Shawty Lo in Atlanta.

Of course, Wayne now has a bit more time to work on these videos — and probably a lot more.

Today at 9:55am, Lil Wayne aka Dwayne Carter appeared obviously agitated as he entered an NYC courtroom flanked by his lawyer, Stacy Richmond, Baby, Slim, and at least a dozen Cash Money associates for a sentencing hearing for an illegal weapons charge. Spectators stared in awe as they witnessed Weezy’s hearing while court officers attempted to keep the onlookers’ reactions to a minimum. Wearing a blue bubble goose and black specs, Wayne sat in the second row of the court looking up at the ceiling for about 5 minutes before his case was called to be heard in front of Judge Charles Solomon. The next court appearance is set for February 9th, which is when Solomon will sentence Carter for the alleged weapons possession in 2007. Neither Wayne nor Baby would comment on the case.

It just keeps getting worse for Lil Wayne A man who did the skits on Birdman‘s and Weezy‘s “Like Father, Like Son” collaboration album has file a copyright infringement lawsuit against Baby and Weezy saying he was never paid and they used the tracks without his permission. A Florida man wants rappers Lil Wayne and Birdman to show him respect — for using his voice on a song with that title.

Thomas Marasciullo filed a copyright infringement lawsuit Friday in a Manhattan federal court against the rappers, their record label and various music distribution outlets.

The lawsuit says Cash Money Records had him record some “Italian-styled” repartee in 2006. The suit says his work was used without pay or permission on “Respect” and other tracks from the rappers’ joint 2006 album “Like Father, Like Son” and Birdman‘s 2007 album “5 Star Stunna“.

A lawyer and representatives for the label didn’t immediately return messages.

The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages for Marasciullo, who lives in Florida’s Hernando County.

British singer and Cash Money artist Jay Sean has said that he thinks the photo of Lil Wayne apparently sharing a kiss with his mentor Birdman was “misconstrued”. The rising singer was signed to Birdman’s Cash Money label last year and recently scored a US number one with his song Down featuring label mate Lil Wayne. Speaking about the infamous picture that appeared to show Birdman kissing his protege on the lips, Jay Sean told FillingTheVoid: “I haven’t discussed that [photo] with either of them, but I know that they have a relationship that’s like father and son and I’ve witnessed that myself. Birdman often talks about Wayne as his son and personally, I think that photo got completely misconstrued. I think they were going for a hug, that’s what it looked like. But I don’t know – I don’t care.” The singer added that his relationship with Wayne is more professional than personal. “We have a friendship, but I’m never gonna get that deep and start asking him personal questions. I think you’ve got to respect people’s boundaries. I’ve never been a really nosy person anyway.”

Rapper Lil Wayne pleaded guilty to attempted weapons possession charges today (October 22).

As reported earlier, the rapper is expected to receive a maximum sentence of one year in jail, although he is expected to serve around eight months in prison for the offense.

The rapper had previously pleaded not guilty to the charges, but changed the plea to avoid a trial that was due to start January 20 and could have resulted in at least 3 ½ years in prison.

The guilty plea stems from an incident in New York in 2007, after police found a .40 caliber handgun during a search of his tour bus.

Originally, lawyers for Wayne planned to contest the charges.

Yesterday (October 21), the plea was entered after Wayne’s DNA evidence was allegedly found on the weapon and deemed admissible by a judge.

The DNA evidence found was reportedly small, and Wayne’s lawyers initially sparred with the prosecution over whether the DNA profiling technique used was scientifically acceptable.

Before the trial, Lil Wayne’s manager had publicly taken responsibility for the gun on the rapper’s VH1 special.

Lil Wayne has a date in a Manhattan courtroom, but DNA science will take center stage.

A hearing on a DNA profiling technique used in the rapper’s 2007 gun-possession case was due to start Wednesday. It concerns a process used for identifying people from tiny amounts of DNA — including some that prosecutors say ties the Grammy Award-winner to a gun found on his tour bus after a concert.

The 27-year-old has pleaded not guilty. He faces at least 3 1/2 years in prison if convicted.

The hearing aims to establish whether what’s known as low copy number DNA profiling has general scientific acceptance.

Rapper Lil Wayne will go on trial next March on felony drug possession and weapons charges he faces in Yuma County, Ariz.

The trial date was set during a court hearing in Yuma on Thursday.

The case against Lil Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Carter, stems from his arrest at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint on Interstate 8 east of Yuma in January 2008. Authorities said they found cocaine, Ecstasy and a handgun on his tour bus.

Lil Wayne has pleaded not guilty. His attorney didn’t immediately return a call on Thursday.

Chief criminal Yuma County Attorney Roger Nelson says his office doesn’t offer misdemeanor plea deals on such cases and that’s probably one of the reasons why the case hasn’t been resolved.
