We recently told you Wayniacs that Lil Wayne has picked up 3 nominations for MTV’s Video Music Awards, and now MTV has just confirmed that Weezy will be performing at the show as well! Right now, we don’t know what songs Tunechi will be performing at the show, but maybe he will perform a new track off his Tha Carter IV album because the album is set to drop at midnight after the VMAs go off. The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live on Sunday, August 28th at 9PM EST from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.

“Being a nominee and performer on the VMAs once again is an honor because everyone doesn’t get that opportunity,” Wayne said in a statement. The event coincides with the August 29 release of his upcoming album. “Looking forward to performing on the show, and having Tha Carter IV drop the same week!”

Lil Wayne is one of rap’s most electric figures, but the Young Money star is ready to unplug. As fans gear up for the release of Weezy’s long-awaited ninth studio album Tha Carter IV, the New Orleans lyricist will appear on “MTV2 Presents: Lil Wayne Unplugged.”

The program, which is set to premiere across MTV2, MTV and MTV.com on Sunday, June 12 at 9 PM ET/PT, will feature Tunechi performing acoustic versions of select hits from his classic catalog.

The show will be MTV’s first televised rap unplugged concert since Jay-Z’s 2001 special and come 20 years after LL Cool J, A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul appeared on the original Yo! Unplugged Rap.

Later this year on December 18th, Lil Wayne will make his first appearance on TV since being released from Rikers Island two weeks ago. He will join Eminem on Saturday Night Live to perform their collabo single “No Love“. Diddy-Dirty Money will also be performing on the show, and Weezy previously performed “Lollipop” and “Got Money” with Mack Maine on SNL in 2009.

Looks Lil’ Wayne will walk away from yesterday’s drug bust in Texas unscathed, at least according to his lawyer.

Lil’ Wayne, along with 11 other people, was detained yesterday in Falfurrias, Tex. by the United States Border Patrol after marijuana was discovered on board his tour bus.

The Border Patrol says Wayne and the others were questioned and charges are pending. His lawyer tells TMZ that while some people did receive citations, Lil’ Wayne was not one of them.

Lil’ pled guilty in October to attempted criminal possession of a weapon stemming from a 2007 traffic stop of his tour bus. He is set to spend a year in jail and will appear for sentencing in February 2010.

UPDATE: The Laredo Entertainment Center, where Lil Wayne was supposed to perform last night but didn’t, tells TMZ he will perform there tonight to make up for the canceled show.
