Rasheeda’s sorority-styled “Bed Rock Remix” featuring Kandi, Diamond, Lola Monroe and Antonia “Toya” Johnson caught many people off guard after its late April release. For one, it was an unlikely adaptation, but more so, the song debuted Lil Wayne’s famed-ex-wife-turned-reality-star, Toya rhyming a decent 16. Expect more where that came from.

“I’mma try it and test it out. A mixtape or album depends on how this one goes by myself,” says Toya. “I always had a little urge to rap, but never really wanted to because sometimes it doesn’t come off lady like. Then of course Wayne is a rapper so I thought people would be like, ‘Oh she’s trying to rap because Wayne rap.’ So I was like let me just play around with something.”

“It’s crazy because now that I did a little bit of that song everybody’s been coming to me like, ‘Oh can we hear something else? Your accent is so cute. You sound so cute rapping.’ I’m like wow.”

As a platinum-selling rapper, Wayne found his ex’s flow a bit more amusing than impressive. “Wayne laughed at me on the “Bed Rock Remix”. That’s what men do. They’re never going to tell you you’re good or to keep going with it. You know their slick side.”

Toya also explains that her and Wayne rarely if ever, discuss music. They’re relationship revolves strictly around shared 11-year-old daughter, Reginae. The newfound rapper cleared the air about reports stating that an mp3 player had been found within Rikers Island, intended for Wayne.

“All of that stuff about MP3s and cell phones… that’s not true. I don’t know where that stuff comes from,” says Toya. “Yes, I did confirm with him. He doesn’t know where any of this is coming from. Wayne doesn’t entertain that. But he’s doing great.” – VIBE

Kevin Rudolf’s upcoming album To The Sky will be hitting stores the same day as Drake’s debut album Thank Me Later – June 15th! We have already heard the first single from the album, “I Made It” aka “Cash Money Heroes”, and now I have found out that Weezy’s and Kevin’s collaboration record “Spit In Your Face“, will be featured on his album too. I’m not sure what has gone on with this track, because I thought it was going to be on Wayne’s Rebirth album… so I’m guessing there will be some changes to the final version when it drops!

David Banner and producer Deezle sue “The Carter Documentary” maker, QD3:

The latest lawsuit filed in connection to Lil Wayne, comes from none other than David Banner.

The Mississippi MC/producer is suing the maker of the infamous “The Carter” documentary, Quincy Jones III better known as QD3.

According to Courthouse News, Banner, real name Lavell Crump, producer Darius “Deezle” Harrison and The Royalty Network Inc. filed a lawsuit in New York Southern District Court Thursday claiming copyright infringement against Jones.

CN reports that in the lawsuit, QD3 used two of Banner’s songs in the documentary without his permission; “La La” from Tha Carter III and “Pussy Monster”, a track added to Tha Carter III after “Playing With Fire” was removed due to previous litgation.

Courthouse News also reports that named in the lawsuit is Virgil Films and Entertainment, LLC, the distribution company for the documentary. – HotSpotATL

Lil Wayne and producers get sued for Tha Carter III single, “Lollipop”:

Young Money CEO, Lil Wayne has been slapped with yet another lawsuit surrounding his 2008 hit Hip Hop music single “Lollipop“.

Philadelphia rapper Dirahn Gilliams filed a lawsuit in the United States District Court Eastern District of Pennsylvania on Friday April 30th for Work ID: 371875615 which is listed with ASCAP. Gilliams is claiming that the song “Lollipop” was based on his 2007 song “Grindin’ Like a Goon”.

Lil Wayne, producer Darius “Deezle” Harrison, James “Jim Jonsin” Scheffer, Rex Zamor, Cash Money, Young Money and Universal have all been named in the lawsuit.

In April 2007, Gilliams sent out a copy of his song to Flo Rida, Brisco, executive Kevon Glickmon, and producers Deezle and Jim Jonsin claiming Young Money received the copy from one of these entities though Flo Rida and Glickman were not mentioned in the lawsuit.

Gilliams is accusing Wayne and Jim Jonsin for illegally using portions of his song for “Lollipop” in 2008.

Jonsin and Deezle are both suing Lil Wayne as well, making the situation more complicated.

Gilliams is seeking to prevent further sales of Tha Carter III and “Lollipop“, not counting monetary damages, lost profits, actual damages, restitution and compensatory and punitive damages that he is suing for. – HipHopRX

Lil Wayne’s ex-wife, Toya speaks to HoneyMag about what she has learned from her past-relationship with Wayne, how she and their daughter, Reginae feel about Wayne in prison, and how they keep in touch regularly.

Toya, what have you’ve learned from your relationship with Lil Wayne?
I learned a lot. I watched Wayne go into different phases. Each phase I learned something new. As far as his love for women; he’s not really a one woman man. I had to deal with that. I am kind of happy because he made me stronger. No BS. I learned a lot from being Lil Wayne’s wife. As long as I’ve held grudges I’ve learned to let it go.

Lil Wayne is incarcerated right now. What are your thoughts on that? How are you feeling?
No one wants to see anyone in jail, especially their kids’ father and husband. Wayne and I have a great relationship. That’s just not anywhere that I want to see him. He’s never not been accessible. As long as we’ve been talking or dating I’ve never not been able to pick up the phone and call him no matter what is going on in my life. Now he’s locked up and it’s not like that anymore. As far as my daughter, her and her father have a great relationship. She talks to him every day after school. She can still talk to him but now it’s on a schedule with calls. It’s going to be a change for these 8 months.

Did you call on Tiny to help you deal with your feelings? She went through the same thing with T.I.
Tiny has been very supportive. From watching her situation with Tip and with me being there for her, she just talked to me telling me to write him, go visit him, help him get through this. That’s what they need; letters and pictures and visits to help them make the time go by faster. That makes it easier on the baby, everybody. I had my daughter write her first letter yesterday.

How is Reginae dealing with the whole situation?
She’s saddened by the whole situation but we talk to her about it. Her dad talks to her. When he was going back and forth to court, we were all there: me, his other baby mamas, and the kids. Just being there for him, supporting him. This last time we didn’t go because it was so back and forth. We’d get there and he doesn’t go to jail. So this last time I didn’t let my daughter go because she was just up and down. It was like an emotional roller coaster for her. She was like, ‘I just wish I could have seen my dad.’

On Monday (March 8th), Lil Wayne officially began a one-year prison sentence at Riker’s Island for gun possession charges. But with the sentencing being postponed several times prior (due to Wayne’s dental work and then a courthouse fire), it was an emotional ordeal for both his ex-wife Antonia “Toya” Johnson and their 11-year-old daughter Reginae.

“It was up and down, you know. One minute we thought he was going and she’d be sad and then he don’t go,” Toya told VIBE over the phone from Atlanta. “We [were] in New York like two times and we ended up turning right back around because he didn’t go.”

On the day the New Orleans rapper was finally sentenced, Toya and Reginae spoke to him but weren’t at the courthouse to say goodbye.

“The last day he finally went in, we didn’t go, so my daughter was like, ‘I wish I would’ve went.’ It was just too much. I just didn’t want to let her see that again ’cause both times she took it real hard,” said Toya. “So I was like, I’m not gon’ let her go this last time. I’m just gon’ make sure he talk to her ’cause I didn’t know if he was really gonna go. They kept pushing back.”

With Reginae so accustomed to Wayne being available, even despite his busy schedule, Toya said the time away will be difficult, but that the rapper reassured them before going in.

“He just told me to be strong and don’t really trip. Don’t let her see me down,” said Toya. “At first my daughter would see me a little sad and you know kids they react off of your feelings sometimes, so he was just like, ‘Be strong, make sure you take care of her. Make sure she straight and keep her phone on all the times so I can call her. The time is gonna fly by.’”

“The whole point of him being in jail is just not good for her—to say her dad’s in jail,” Toya continued. “But at this point it is what it is, and we just gotta make the best of it. I’ma take her to visit him and talk to him and she’ll get through this eight months. It’ll fly by. I tell her all the time, ‘Just call daddy and tell him you love him,’ and he’ll be home soon.” – VIBE

“I feel bad, because I don’t think anything like this has happened in music since Elvis got drafted into the Army,” Bun B said. ” … Let’s just keep it real: Lil Wayne is not just the biggest rapper, Lil Wayne is the biggest pop star right now. Maybe Susan Boyle is on his level. But when you talk about music, nine times out of 10, Lil Wayne’s name is gonna come into the conversation. I feel bad for any brother or any sister that’s gotta go to jail. I feel especially bad for a person like Lil Wayne who’s really riding the wave right now. But he don’t have a lot of time. He’s doing it on the Island. As wild and as ill as the Island is, I think at the same time, he’ll be all right. When you in that state jail and you dealing with those lifers, you got a lot of other issues at hand.”

“I don’t think it will be smart for him to go to general population,” he said. “A person like Lil Wayne doesn’t have to prove anything to anybody in general population exposing themselves to that yard. It’s not about being real. It’s too many people who have way too much to gain, and [there is] so much he could lose by trying to prove something. … That’s not a good look. … It’s a little bit different when a person like Lil Wayne goes to jail. All we can do is pray for him. Pray for his spirit.”

“I just left Miami. People [were] trying to keep their heads up and sprits up while the young man was around, but they are hurting,” Bun said. “One thing I noticed from the Young Money camp is that they’re not being down because of their careers and they’re worried about a co-sign. They are worried about a friend. That’s what I see from Drake, Nicki, Stunna. … These people are concerned about a friend going to prison.” – MTV

Anyone upset Reginae and Tiny give permission and persuade Toya to go on a blind date which ends up being with the football player James Hardy. They go bowling and she also gets a big surprise when her brother Ruby appears. The OMG Girls perform in this episode too, and Teyana Taylor and D. Woods make cameos.
