Lil Wayne Headed ‘Straight To The Studio’ After Leaving Prison, Says Birdman

Lil Wayne Headed Straight To The Studio After Leaving Prison Says Birdman

Birdman tells Music Mix that after chilling and partying with his family, Lil Wayne will go straight to the studio when he is released from Rikers Island in four days. Baby also says that Weezy will be working on his Tha Carter IV album (hopefully Dedication 4 too), and we should be looking for Like Father, Like Son Part 2 to drop on Father’s Day weekend.

“Me knowing Wayne, he’s going into the studio,” Cash Money label head Baby (a.k.a. Birdman) tells the Music Mix. “He hasn’t been able to rap for months. I think after seeing the family, popping a few bottles, it’s back to basics. Family first, that’s what we believe in, that’s what we’re loyal to. After that, I think the same day he comes home, he’s going to go straight to the studio.”

Wayne’s first priority when he enters the booth for the first time since March will be working on his long-promised project Tha Carter IV. Baby expects that album to arrive in the first quarter of 2011, though no release plans have been finalized.

Baby is also looking forward to working with Wayne on a sequel to Like Father, Like Son, the collaborative album that the mentor and protégé released in 2006. “We’re planning on putting that out Father’s Day weekend,” he says. So what should fans expect to hear next June? “Just me and Wayne being us, the father-son thing. We’re bringing that Cash Money/Young Money sound, that traditional hard-body rap, the music that we do together — that gangsta shit, straight up.”

So what are your thoughts on this record ❓ Was it over-hyped ❓ Is it one of the greatest tracks Tune has ever recorded ❓

Lil Wayne Places #7 On MTV’s 2010 Hottest MC In The Game List x “Free Weezy” Pumpkin

To wit, he released the compilation album We Are Young Money in late December ’09, two full-length solo LPs — Rebirth, which debuted at #2 on the Billboard albums chart and has since gone gold, and I Am Not A Human Being, which sold 110,000 copies in its first week of release in September — more than a handful of videos and a couple of notable collaborations. A mainstay on the Hottest MCs list, his time away precipitated a fall of five slots from last year’s #2 ranking, but MTV News’ Hip-Hop Brain Trust still voted Lil Wayne the #7 Hottest MC of 2010. – MTV

What are your thoughts on Tunechi getting the number 7 spot on MTV’s Hottest MC In The Game 2010 list ❓ I don’t agree with this choice because I know Weezy has been in jail for most of 2010, but he has still been dropping videos and releasing amazing music throughout the year.

After the jump, you can view some photos Said Abdulbari sent over to me of him supporting the “Free Weezy” movement by carving it into a pumpkin.

Lil Wayne’s I Am Not A Human Being Goes #1 On Albums Chart

Lil Waynes I Am Not A Human Being Goes 1 On Albums Chart

Two weeks after Lil Wayne’s “I Am Not a Human Being” bowed at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 exclusively from download sales, its CD release pushes it to No. 1 in its third chart week. The set moves from No. 16 to No. 1 with 125,000 sold (up 443%), according to Nielsen SoundScan.

It’s the first No. 1 to climb to the top (as opposed to debuting there) since a year ago, when the “Twilight Saga: New Moon” soundtrack moved 2-1 in its second week on the list. (Most albums that hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 tend to do so by debuting there.)

“I Am Not a Human Being’s” 16-1 jump on the chart is the largest leap to the top since the chart dated Jan. 19, 2008, when Radiohead’s “In Rainbows” zipped 156-1. It debuted a week early on the list because retailers began selling it before its official street date. – Billboard

Congratulations to Tunechi for getting top of the charts ❗
