A few weeks ago, Lizzo chopped it up with Billboard to promote her new mixtape, My Face Still Hurts From Smiling.
During their interview, Lizzo revealed Lil Wayne aka Mixtape Weezy was a big inspiration for her while creating the project.
She even joked that she was calling herself “Lizzo Wayne” during the process of making the mixtape.
The Grammy Award winner also credited Missy Elliott as a huge influence, saying Missy is always part of her artistic DNA.
Lizzo and Tunechi finally met in person at the Juneteenth celebrity softball game last month.
You can watch a clip below of Tunechi telling Nicki Minaj about meeting Lizzo for the first time! When do you think we will hear a collaboration from them?
You’re moving like Wayne.
I was calling myself “Lizzo Wayne.” [Laughs.]You’ve mentioned not being a hip-hop historian growing up, but clearly the culture still moved you. Was there anyone you studied or drew inspiration from while making this project?
I remember I kept saying Lil Wayne was the person I wanna be [like]. I wanna be like Mixtape Wayne when I do this, but I always have a little bit of Missy Elliott in me, at all times. She’s just a part of me. So I definitely tapped into Missy.
