Jay Sean sits down with Crystal Rosas from Z100 radio station in New York for a new interview.
During their talk, he spoke on Cash Money Records, “Down“, and working with Lil Wayne.
First, Jay discussed signing with Cash Money and how that move changed everything for his career.
He also mentioned that his “Down” collaboration with Wayne now sits very close to Diamond certification.
Sean then explained how “Down” actually came together behind the scenes.
CMB founders Birdman and Slim called him about a supposed problem with the record and flew him out to Miami.
When the UK singer arrived, they played the finished song back for him inside the studio at 2:00 AM.
Then Jay got a “huge surprise” when Weezy F Baby‘s verse suddenly came in at the end.
He could not believe Tunechi had officially jumped on the single and co-signed the record.
Sean even praised Tune‘s verse on “Down” during the conversation: “[Lil Wayne’s verse on ‘Down’ is] one of the most iconic rap verses on a pop song ever.”
