Streetrunner recently sat down with Don Cannon for an episode of the BackTrak podcast on the TmrO Network.
During their interview, the hip-hop producer spoke on everything from meeting Lil Wayne to creating his famous leaked records.
Around the 25:40 mark, Streetrunner recalled his first time meeting Wayne while working on Fat Joe’s Me, Myself & I album.
He said he handed Tunechi a beat CD right there in the moment, and just three hours later, Tune invited SR and Joe to his studio.
Weezy F Baby then played them an early version of Tha Carter III, which surprised the producer immediately as Weezy had already rapped over two of his beats from that CD. Those songs were “1 Night Only” and “Trouble“.
After that story, Streetrunner broke down Wayne‘s “Gossip” track and explained why it did not leak with the original Carter 3 batch.
He also discussed what happened with “Playing With Fire” from C3 and the sample issues behind it.
Streetrunner said he did not realize how badly Cash Money Records handled sample payments at the time.
The producers explained that the Rolling Stones sued, so the record label had to remove the record from the project.
Later in the episode around 1:04:00, SR played some of the classic instrumentals he created for Mr. Carter. These included: “Cry Out / Amen“, “Do It Again“, “Trouble“, and “Gossip“.
