Malwarebytes: Anti-Malware Software - If your comp links you to random things from a google search or when you click a link etc then it is probably Malware, it's not harmful just annoying

Smart Popup Blocker - Goes that bit further and will stop 99.9% of all popups on the net and cleans cookies etc..

AVG isn't that good, as Jcock has said I would take Kaspersky or this other one..can't think of the name.
Malwarebytes is good in it's trial version too.
You wouldn't have problems at all if you just didn't visit weary sites or go to strange pop-ups, etc. Obviously there are some ways you can still be targeted but if you just do that then there's not much to worry about.
As far as viruses go, sometimes they can be invisible and really hard to get rid of. If you know the original contents of your Windows32 folder then you can sometimes spot trojans sitting in there.
If in doubt, back up everything and format your computer.

Skim, if the file's corrupt I'm not sure you can do much but you can try VLC media player, it supports a lot of types of shit but doubt it will help.

Sorry but again I have to disagree...AVG 9.0 Free Edition has an 89% success rate compared to Kaspersky 2010's 88%. Kaspersky 2010 also has no official malware scan to it, where AVG free does and it detects about 80% of them and kills 70% without even a word in real-time protection. Kaspersky does get 88% of them in real-time detection but it is going to cost you $80 for the full thing. Also Kaspersky's firewall cannot be turned off no matter what and on occasions you may not be able to have a firewall turned on for whatever reason.

Show me those facts there sir i wanna see.

    i'll show you mines.

avg is ranked #6 which is good but no where near the top anti viruses on the market

http://anti-virus-software-review.toptenreviews.com/ Kaspersky is ranked #2 (should be number 1 got cheated) with a high rating in detecting all sorts of malware files not just virus. and only use up 30 mbs of your memory to run meanwhile other anti viruses cough* uses triple digits mb's just to run in the background.

Edit: if not, just re-d/l your internet browser by going to the website.
Yeah you gotta press F8 to get into safe mode. By i re-downloaded the internet browsers, and ran the antivirus in safe mode. Still didnt work, FML.

Yeah not on mine . I've run it in safe mode before though. You gotta do that complicated shit where you make that black screen pop up and then type that programming shit...there's a button on my keyboard, but when I push it, it does didly squat.

Whatever you say Kaspersky does get better reviews then avg, and you can disable the firewall and it shouldn't matter since the windows firewall sucks ass and doesn't do shit, so computer genius it seems you need to get your shit straight since I have kaspersky and know what it can do for the most part.

    Re: Official Computer Thread

I really can't be bothered to argue about this. Kaspersky is only really effective if it is paid for or illegally downloaded. It's free trial doesn't last forever, whereas AVG has a free edition of its software.

Also Kaspersky is better used in its internet security package, I've seen more reviews about that than it's anti-virus software.

I said you can't turn off the firewall as it says that from reviews I have read, and JRock those stats are based on the averages of 10 really good reviews I have read about both. (And yes I took the ratings from the same sites for both)

You can defend your software and I'll defend mine, people are opinionated on their preferences, I was just trying to state facts from things I have read. Namely that no-where have I seen that Kaspersky is Windows 7 compatible

But JRock, I've read that if you put Kaspersky into its "safe mode" it uses most of your cpu usage up, reckon you can give me that stats on that please?

    Re: Official Computer Thread

NOD32 is good, but I don't think it really matters what anti-virus software you have, nothing will stop 100% of viruses. I mean some are better than others, but it's just down to personal opinion and preference on what you want to use and trust really

But I do have a question...Anyone know where to get an amazing hard drive from, I don't wanna go searching around just yet if anyone here has any they know of that I should check out first? I'm currently running a 320GB (7200rpm) SATA Hard Drive.

I have two in mind at the moment which are http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna...&sku=400-14220

    and

It's only a 30 day trial though Skim, you'd have to buy it after that

I don't use firefox but I found this which may help for you

Enable or disable the spell checking feature that checks your spelling in web forms.

    1. Type about:config in the address bar.

    2. In the filter field type spell

    3. Find the entry for layout.spellcheckDefault and double-click it.

    4. Set the integer to 1 to enable the spell checker.
Set the integer to 0 to disable the spell checker.

You can also go to Tools >Options>Advanced and select Check my spelling as I type under the General tab.
