Gudda Gudda Talks Different Eras Of Young Money, First Meeting Lil Wayne, Sqad Up, Wayne vs Birdman Public Feud & More

Gudda Gudda recently chopped it up with Lalaa Shepard in a virtual interview for a new edition of The Progress Report’s “Conversations With Lalaa”.

During their conversation, Gudda spoke on taking a hiatus from music, being influenced by the Hot Boys, how COVID-19 has affected him, New Orleans, if B.G. is free from prison, Cash Money Records, the different eras of Young Money, if he feels he is underrated, surviving Hurricane Katrina, what the word “progress” means to him, and fatherhood.

Double G also recalled his first time meeting Lil Wayne, why they decided to call their rap group “Sqad Up” (it involved Wayne wanting something to tattoo on his knuckles as he liked how Mobb Deep did that), Sqad Up being a clothing line at first, and supporting Weezy through his public feud with Birdman and Cash Money. I have decided to share scans from Lil Wayne‘s cover story for the April 2008 issue of The Source magazine for #ThrowbackThursday today, which took place during a recording session on his tour bus for “Let The Beat Build” and “Lollipop” off Tha Carter III.

In his interview, Weezy spoke on his recording process, ghostwriting for Dr. Dre, being born to rap, why he is the best rapper alive, and shared his thoughts on people saying he is doing too many drugs.

“Everybody talking ’bout ‘the boy on too much drugs, Baby need to take him to rehab’ and all this shit. I want you to know one thing: a junkie can’t do what the fuck I do. Can’t no drug, can’t no bitch, can’t no money faze me. I am the ultimate high. It ain’t what I’m on, it’s what I do, and making great music is what the fuck I do.”

Tune also talked to C. Vernon Coleman II about playing the guitar, believing every album he has put out is a classic, his daughter Reginae Carter, owning all of his publishing and masters, and more!

Royce Da 5’9″ Explains Why It’s Easy To Forget Lil Wayne Is “One Of Our Greats” [Video]

Royce Da 59 Explains Why Its Easy To Forget Lil Wayne Is One Of Our Greats

Royce Da 5’9″ recently chopped it up with HotNewHipHop for an interview in their “12 Days Of Christmas” series.

Around the 34:25 mark of their conversation, Royce explains why you can never compare Drake to Lil Wayne and why Wayne is so important to us all:

“Yeah, I mean, he [Lil Wayne] does numbers because he’s one of our greats. But because of his journey, it’s easy to forget that. It’s easy to lose sight of that. And it’s never been put in perspective properly. It’s never been broken down and placed in front of you the proper way what he has contributed. Like nobody really repeats that enough. It’s not enough people going, Oh, well, you know, he gave us a Drake and Nicki. Nobody says that, they just go: ‘Drake, look at Drake, he’s so handsome. Drake, Drake, Drake, Drake, Drake.’ You know because Drake has you in awe of his greatness. But Wayne is a different level of greatness.”

“So it’s like, you can’t compare him [Drake] to Wayne. It’s hard to compare him to Wayne because Wayne’s like catching charges and shits happening to distract you, but you don’t realize how important Wayne is unless you know what you’re looking at. You don’t realize how important Cash Money Records is because of the other things that overshadow what they are. You know, like, it’s crazy. It’s crazy. It’s so many other things now.”

You can watch the Detroit rapper praise Weezy in his convo after the jump below! Do you agree with what Royce said?
