Cory & Peter Gunz Discuss Lil Wayne Work Ethic, Unreleased Music, Leaking A Milli & More

Cory Gunz and his father Peter Gunz recently sat down with Math Hoffa, Mecca, Champ, and Sean Bigga for an interview on their show that you can watch below.

Throughout their conversation (a couple of time stamps are 51:40 and 1:28:40), Cory talked about Lil Wayne‘s work ethic, having a lot of unreleased music with him in the vault, visiting Wayne while he was locked up in Rikers Island, and confirmed he has never ghostwrote for him.

Peter discussed Tunechi paying the bail for his son when he got caught with a gun charge in New York, why he leaked the “A Milli” song with Cory‘s verse on it, and one of his proudest moments is when his son performed “6 Foot, 7 Foot” on top of Times Square with Tune.

The Young Money Gunna also spoke about religion, what it was like growing up with a rapper as a father, being heavily influenced by Eminem, wanting to work with Em, being charged for gun possession, how he was first introduced to the YM CEO during Tha Carter II era, Weezy recording a 32 bar verse for him for free (“I Got Cha“), and much more!

From the 19:00 mark of their conversation, Redd talks about having a song with everyone from the original Cash Money Records days including Lil Wayne, reveals how he first met the Young Money CEO in the studio, and says “Wayne [has] always been family”.

Later on in their interview at 49:30, Eyezz recalls the time he collaborated with Weezy on the song “Bling Blaw“. He says this was the era of Tunechi in his “eating rappers” mode and Tune had just won four GRAMMYs, so he was grateful to receive a free verse as he knew Mr. Carter was charging $150k for a feature verse at this current time!

Gudda Gudda recently chopped it up with Lalaa Shepard in a virtual interview for a new edition of The Progress Report’s “Conversations With Lalaa”.

During their conversation, Gudda spoke on taking a hiatus from music, being influenced by the Hot Boys, how COVID-19 has affected him, New Orleans, if B.G. is free from prison, Cash Money Records, the different eras of Young Money, if he feels he is underrated, surviving Hurricane Katrina, what the word “progress” means to him, and fatherhood.

Double G also recalled his first time meeting Lil Wayne, why they decided to call their rap group “Sqad Up” (it involved Wayne wanting something to tattoo on his knuckles as he liked how Mobb Deep did that), Sqad Up being a clothing line at first, and supporting Weezy through his public feud with Birdman and Cash Money.
