Sevn Thomas Explains How Excited He Is To Have Produced A Beat On Lil Wayne Tha Carter V Album

Sevn Thomas recently sat down with Complex for an interview about producing beats for big music artists like Lil Wayne, JAY Z, Beyonce, Drake, Travis Scott, Mac Miller, Nicki Minaj, and more.

During their conversation, Sevn explained why he is super-excited to have a beat on Tunechi‘s Tha Carter V album, which is “Let It Fly” featuring Travis, and how it’s an honor and privilege because C5 will be looked back in time as Tune‘s first album after Cash Money Records.

The producer also revealed he used inspiration from DMX’s “Let Me Fly” song for creating the “Let It Fly” instrumental. You can watch what Thomas said about working with Weezy in the video after the jump below (head to the 9:10 mark)!

Directors Talk About Working With Lil Wayne On Set Of Commercials

Complex recently chopped it up with people that have worked with Lil Wayne on set of his commercials to see what it was like working with him.

Sara Gilbert, who is the Public Relations Manager for Sovereign Brands, talked about how Weezy acted as his own director to improve the scenes while on set of the Bumbu ads and the “A Word With Wayne” series:

“It must be from his experience being a professional for all of his adult life. He can hear something and put his own spin to it instantaneously. He might hear something upstairs or down the hallway-[maybe] someone shifted their weight and they have their keys in their pocket. He’ll stop and wait for the noise to clear and then he’ll resume or we’ll take it from the top. He doesn’t miss a stride, it doesn’t throw him off his game. The fact that he self-corrects, he’s directing himself, is amazing.”

Matt Aselton, who directed Tunechi in the commercials for Samsung, spoke on how his crew were unconvinced at first if Tune would be able to act the scenes, as well as how he reminds him of an athlete:

Curren$y appeared on one of the latest episodes of Complex’s “Everyday Struggle” series to chop it up with DJ Akademiks and Nadeska.

During their conversation, Spitta revealed that he felt terrible seeing Lil Wayne go through his record label problems and because he is an independent artist himself, he knew how much of a “monster” Wayne could of been these past 4 years.

“From somebody who’s independent… I know how much of a monster he could be if he was doing it himself.”

The former Young Money artist also added that Tunechi has “gave his life” to skateboarding, mentioned Tune stays in the studio until 10:00AM, and answered “that’s all we do” when asked if they will ever work together again. Check out everything he said below!

During his sit-down conversation with Peter Rosenberg, the Chicago rapper was asked about his thoughts on Lil Wayne‘s Tha Carter III album to which he said both of the albums are amazing (the leaked version and the official version).

Also in their interview, which you can watch below (head to the 27:25 mark), Chance said Tunechi is “definitely the best rapper alive” and is still his “favorite rapper to this day”. He even called Tune the best at rapping and “the Michael Jackson of rap“! Do you agree?

For it’s 10-year anniversary, the producer chatted to Complex all about the song, such as creating the beat, how it ended up in Tunechi‘s hands, the sample, his reaction to first hearing what Tune did over the instrumental (he wasn’t feeling it at first), the legacy of it, his thoughts on everyone freestyling over the beat, Cory Gunz being on the original version of the track, and more.
