Skip Bayless Reveals Lil Wayne Was Involved In His Drip Bayless Nickname, Praises Wayne As A Person

In episode 4 of UNDISPUTED‘s “#SkipRidesTheTrollerCoaster” series, which lets Skip Bayless answer questions that he could never answer on the sports show, the American sports columnist explains where his nickname “Drip Bayless” came from.

Skip reveals the background of his nickname first started in July of this year when his “close friend” Lil Wayne gifted him, Shannon Sharpe and Jenny Taft each with a necklace that had their names on, which left him “shocked” and “honored”.

“He [Lil Wayne] simply has the biggest, greatest heart of any human I have ever encountered. I do trust him and count on him as a very close friend. My wife Ernestine has gotten to know him and is actually becoming friends with Wayne’s lady. The bond is pretty deep.”

You can watch Bayless explain the story of where “Drip Bayless” came from, praise Wayne as a person, and call “No Mercy” the greatest theme song in the history of television at the start of the video after the jump below!

It’s been a good while since we have seen one of these type of interviews with Lil Wayne! While at the SPECTRE by SUPRA launch party in Miami last week, Mass Appeal asked Weezy F Baby plenty of questions for the latest episode of thier “Off Tha’ Wall” series.

Tunechi answered why he decided to start rapping, what memories he had from the Hot Boys days, how he got the nickname “Shrimp Daddy”, what it is like being a rap star, why he decided to start skateboarding, what his favorite SPECTRE by SUPRA model is, how he came up with the name TRUKFIT, what his favorite sports movie is, what the most unexpected song on his iPod is, his guilty pleasures, what his pet peeves are, what he hid from his mother growing up, if there are any quotes that he lives by, what is next for him, and what his last meal would be.

Mass Appeal also asked Wayne who he prefers out of Martin or the Fresh Prince, Michael Jackson or Prince, and Marvin Gaye or Stevie Wonder. This is then when Tune tells the story of Stevie once telling him to shut up at a party.

Lil Wayne’s Pre-Jail Video: “The Road To Rikers Part 1”

“Three days, y’all — let’s party!” Lil Wayne said on Saturday (February 27). Now that his dental surgery is done, Weezy is expected to begin serving his year in jail on weapons charges Tuesday, but he’s making sure he’s seen and heard before his departure. Of late, Weezy has taken to Twitter (much more on than in a minute) and Ustream to communicate with fans. On Saturday evening, Weezy and his favorite videographer, DJ Scoob Doo, sent MTV News a clip we’re going to call “Nino Brown: The Road to Rikers, Part 1” (as in Rikers Island, the New York jail that Wayne’s heading to).

In the clip, Wayne promises to grant fans a look at what his life is like as he prepares to go to jail.

Shot Saturday afternoon in the guest house of his Miami home, Wayne had the NCAA game of Tennessee vs. Kentucky playing in the background on his big-screen TV.

“This is for my real fans,” Wayne said. “People who wanna know what I be doin’. I’mma let y’all in.”

From there, Wayne, who recently tweeted that he was giving up Twitter, urged his fans to log on and follow him at his page “@liltunechi.”

“I just opened that up,” Weezy said. “I got almost 200,000 followers. I need more followers. I saw Drake had like 400,000 followers. I need more followers than Drake.”

Wayne then gave background on his nickname.
