Lil Wayne’s Rebirth Album First Week Sales
Despite an early leak, Lil Wayne still managed to rock the charts with his latest album, but he couldn’t top a country act.
The Cash Money rapper’s oft-delayed Rebirth debuts at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 with 176,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. He placed second to Nashville stars Lady Antebellum and their sophomore effort Need You Now, which holds onto the No. 1 spot for a second week with 209,000.
Rebirth marks the seventh top 10 album for Weezy, who has a little more time to record his next album Tha Carter IV now that his sentencing has been adjourned to March 2 due to dental surgery.
Wayne’s last album, Tha Carter III, was the best-selling album of 2008, moving over 1 million copies in its first week. Rebirth suffered from numerous delays and was prematurely shipped to Amazon.com customers in December, causing it to surface online more than a month in advance of its street date.

What are your thoughts on this? Obviously this is no Tha Carter III first weeks sales, but you have got to take into account that the album did leak when it shouldn’t and maybe it didn’t get the promotion it should have. I have also seen lots and lots of bad reviews of Rebirth all over the internet, but one thing people need to remember is that this was just an ‘experimental’ album. Lil Wayne is also shooting music videos for “Drop The World“, “Knockout“, “Get A Life“, “Da Da Da” (maybe “Die For You“), so these should help with the album sales too. Well… You can’t blame the leak, well you can, but i mean, C3 was also leaked a month before release, and still the sales were fucking huge! But the thing is, when people found out it was gonna be rock, they was like ”That is just gonna be crap” but it ain’t actually. Well he’s smart though, shooting music videos of Rebirth songs is a smart tactic, so it’ll gonna work. But I did expect 200-300K man.. But still he beated 50 xD. Well I Just hope Weezy is doing well and is glad too ;D

I think those r good #’s considering the album leaked 2 months early, all of the delays, no promo, bad reviews, and no singles getting air play! I love Rebirth and I love the fact that Lil Wayne is such a creative artist not just a rapper. Great #’s for an experimental album!!! Drop the World and Knockout will do well and Tha Carter IV will do monster #’s so he has nothing to worry about. Lil Wayne is the best!

I think were predicting around 140 k – 150 k so he sold more than they predicted he would and even though these aren’t bad number they are horrible for Lil Wayne being that he is such a big megastar…I really thought he had more than 176, 000 REAL DIE HARD FANS WHO WOULD BUY ANYTHING HE PUTS OUT but i guess he doesn’t. The album really wasnt that bad anyways with like 3 bad songs the rest pretty good.

being honest, for a person who is a rapper to do a rock album is pretty strange, but i think wayne definatly pulled it off! class album that i cant stop listening to with some songs being some of the best he’s made!

Not the best first week sales but it’s not bad all.I’ve read a lot of bad reviews but in my opinion Rebirth is a great album.Maybe if they will do a re-release later which I hope for it could help with the sales.14 tracks on the deluxe edition is too little for me.So I still haven’t bought it hoping for a re-release.Anyway if a re-release won’t happen I will buy the deluxe edition.

im a huge lil wayne fan, but i wouldnt take the rebirth if it was free. straight trash with the exception of the song with eminem. great production, but it was full of auto-tune and raps that sounded like they came from a heart-broken teenager. i loved lil waynes old shit like dedication 2, lil weezyana, carter ii, the suffix, drought 3, drought is over pt. 4, etc. hes my favorite rapper, but just because hes my favorite rapper doesnt mean im gonna like his stuff when its clearly trash. im actually glad his album flopped, because he can get back to making good rap music. i just hope he doesnt sell out on tha carter iv like tha carter iii

Man Weezy aint gettin his credit for Rebirth. This is album is a great album and the songs need to be HEARD and FELT to, not ANALYZED and CRITICIZED!!! The album was a good work and it aint Rock its Weezy Metal! I say FUCK DA CRITIKS and the sheep that follow their criticizing!!!

You know I actually liked this album MUCH more than his other albums. Weezy’s mixtapes are the shit, but I just can’t bump to his albums, I did have a liking for C2 though. Also what made sales low on this was when people hear about “Lil Wayne” they obviously think “rap/hip-hop” so if he drops a rock album… not too many people will be fond of it.
All I’m gonna say is: Rebirth was great. Those fucking critics and reviewers know nothing.

Man I have to say Iwaited til Sunday to pick up the album I’m a HUGE weezy fan but I still wasn’t ex pecting much from this album and to be honest I haven’t stopped listening since Sunday I love it! I think it was perfect for him to leave the streets with this album before who goes in and when everyone really starts to hear the singles and see the videos I think it’s gonna catch fire.

Alright, the ablum sales were better than I expected, but the only reason they shot so high (despite all of the setbacks) is because Wayne put it out (the sale were still embarassingly low for how hyped up this album was and the fact that Wayne is the hottest artist out right now). The actual album was garbage with most of the lyrics being inaudible, unclever, mumbling and screaming.
Wayne needs to recognize Rebirth as a failure and tank it instead of making those music vids. That time should be invested in what his fans really want, which is the CIV. Not to mention that actually seeing the songs on that album performed by him would be embarassing for Wayne and take his swag down a few notches (just like Prom Queen did in my opinion).
So Wayne, if you want to really drop a bomb like you did with CIII (arguably the most creative piece of work a rapper has put out) invest time in perfecting CIV, get your album concepts and designs down and tear it up.

I used to like Lil Wayne and had a few CDs and tracks here and there but Rebirth has made me a FAN. The fact he could innovate and do something different speaks tons about him as an artist. I give him props and can’t wait to see what’s next for him. I’m actually excited about this career now.
C3 was leaked a WEEK before the drop. Watch the Documentary Weezy said it was “good” leak because it was only a week before. I don’t think the album did that well because he tried to get all instrumental with it. Just stick to what your good at. We love that.
