Producers Mannie Fresh & Key Wane Discuss Their Involvement With Lil Wayne Tha Carter 5 Album

On the black carpet at the 2014 BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards in Los Angeles on August 22nd, Hip-Hop Wired caught up with producers Mannie Fresh and Key Wane to ask them about their involvement in Lil Wayne‘s forthcoming album, Tha Carter V, due to drop on October 28th.

Mannie mentioned that him and Weezy are trying to recapture Tha Carter I sound on the fifth installment of his Tha Carter album series: “If you know Tha Carter I, then you know Mannie Fresh and we’re just trying to recapture that sound.”

Wane explained that he has heard some stuff from C5 and even though he does not know if his beats will make the final cut of the album, he will still listen to it as he is a big fan of Tune: “Regardless, Carter V, Carter VI, Carter VII – I’m going to listen to them whether I’m on it or not.”

Lil Wayne Named Songwriter Of The Year At 2014 BMI R&B Hip Hop Awards

Lil Wayne was honored with the “Songwriter Of The Year” prize last night at the 2014 Broadcast Music, Inc. R&B/Hip-Hop Awards, which took place at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles, California.

As he was currently in Philadelphia on tour with Drake, Wayne could not be in attendance to pick up his trophy. This is also not the first time that Weezy has won this award as he won it back in 2012, 2010, and 2009.

Cash Money bosses Bryan “Birdman” Williams and Ronald “Slim” Williams were saluted as BMI Icons last night at the 2013 R&B/Hip-Hop Awards ceremony, which took place at the Manhattan Center in New York City.

Guests that attended the show to support Cash Money Records included: Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Detail, Caskey, Chris Richardson, Kevin Rudolf, Mack Maine, T@, Ray J, Ceelow, Jeff Panzer, Santi Cargo Rubirosa, Troy Bless, Trina, Future, DJ Khaled, Ace Hood, Mystikal, Turk, Curren$y, Mannie Fresh, Juvenile, and more.

During the show, Baby got on stage to give a speech and announce that YMCMB has sold over 500 million records, which is an amazing achievement! He also mentioned that Weezy is the realest person he has ever met: “This the realest nigga I ever met in my motherfuckin’ life, his name is Dwayne motherfuckin’ Carter”

Lil Wayne Wins Big At BMI Awards

Last night some of hip-hop and R&B’s biggest acts were honored at the 2009 BMI Urban Awards.

Reuters reports that Lil Wayne, T-Pain, Kanye West and Polow Da Don were among the big winners of the night. Both Weezy and Pain shared the Songwriter of the Year trophy while both Ye and Polow earned Producer of the Year credits. “No Air,” the collaboration between Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown, was named Song of the Year.

Funk music legend George Clinton was presented with the BMI Icon Award. Big Boi, Cee-Lo Green, Janelle Monae and Dallas Austin were among the artists that payed homage to the Parliament Funkadelic leader in a montage of his greatest hits.

Miami Boss Rick Ross was also in attendance last night as he kicked off the event performing his hit “Magnificent.”
