Steve EQ The Great Recalls Recording Lil Wayne & Reveals How I Cant Feel My Face Leaked

A few months ago, Steven Vargas aka EQ The Great aka Steve The Engineer sat down with GRLA Hebrew and Tazadaq Sicarii to explain how he was done wrong by Juelz Santana.

Around the 1:45 mark of the clip below, Steve revealed how he first got started to become Juelz‘s recording engineer, which was back in 2005, and one of the first projects he worked on was I Can’t Feel My Face. He even recalled recording Lil Wayne in his brother’s closet in New Jersey.

The former Dipset engineer also spoke about why Juelz Santana and Wayne decided they wanted to release ICFMF as an album instead of a mixtape (money involved), as well as mentioned it was Santana‘s artist from Philadelphia, Jay Bezel, who leaked the project online by leaving a copy of the CD in a car!

Lil Wayne‘s former recording engineer Mike Banger recently participated in a Q&A (question and answer) session with a Lil Wayne Discord server that you can read in full below.

If you were not already aware, Banger is a RIAA-certified, multi-Platinum and Grammy award-winning recording engineer that has recorded and mixed numerous Tunechi projects including Tha Carter IV, Rebirth, I Am Not A Human Being 1 and 2, We Are Young Money, Sorry 4 The Wait, Dedication 4 and 5, and No Ceilings etc, as well as also produced a few tracks for Tune.

In their interview, Mike talked about Wayne‘s recording process, the difference between Wayne being high and sober in the studio, what percentage of Wayne‘s music actually gets released, and witnessing Wayne record “6 Foot 7 Foot” straight from prison, as well as everyone being out of their minds from mushrooms for the “No Worries” session. He also revealed Weezy has unreleased music with both Michael Jackson and Dr. Dre!

If you didn’t already know, Mike has recorded and mixed numerous Tunechi projects including Tha Carter IV, Rebirth, I Am Not A Human Being 1 and 2, We Are Young Money, Sorry 4 The Wait, Dedication 4 and 5, and No Ceilings etc, as well as also produced a few songs for Tune.

In this 1 hour and 30 minute interview, Banger spoke about numerous things such as working with Lil Wayne, witnessing the pressure of Wayne having the “Best Rapper Alive” title, first starting as an intern for Mr. Carter around Tha Carter days (recalls buying him Popeyes in the middle of the night), and much more. The parts about Weezy start from the 19:40 mark and last throughout the whole conversation.

PS: “YM Banger” from I Am Not A Human Being was named after Mike Banger because he produced, recorded and mixed all of the song himself!

The second part of CBC-TV‘s eight-part documentary series, Drake’s Plan, which explores the rise of one of Canada’s biggest success stories of the past decade in music, recently surfaced online.

In the clip, which you can check out below, Cortez Bryant, KY Engineering, Jeff Burroughs, and Jabbari Weekes all spoke to the camera about Drake solidifying himself as one of the biggest icons in the music industry.

Tez mentioned that once Drizzy Drake and Lil Wayne started making music together, he knew it was a wrap. KY also recalled Wayne telling him to record Drizzy after they just had a 16-hour studio session on the tour bus and after he heard the 6 God rap in the booth before getting ready to leave, Weezy decided to unpack his stuff and rap again!
