BET have partnered up with United Way Worldwide to support African Americans that have been seriously impacted by the COVID-19 disease.
They have created a fundraiser titled “Saving Our Selves: A BET COVID-19 Relief Effort”, which included a video appearance from Lil Wayne at his private indoor TRUKSTOP skate park (watch below).
Wayne had a message for the people in his hometown New Orleans, Louisiana who are suffering from this coronavirus by telling them to keep strong and stay safe. He also gave praise to the health care workers by calling them “the real heroes” and “iconic figures”, as well as extended his condolences to DJ Black N Mild!
As fellow Cash Money affiliates Lil Wayne, B.G., Juvenile, Mack Maine and Baby made their way into the Fifth African Baptist Church in New Orleans on Thursday morning (December 30), hundreds of fans gathered outside the church to pay tribute to fallen hometown rapper Magnolia Shorty.
In addition to Weezy and his crew, a number of other local bounce artists made their presence felt at the funeral, including Partners-N-Crime, Kilo G, DJ Jubilee, Big Freeda and Ms. Tee, who was the first female artist to sign with Cash Money, followed by Shorty in 1995, who was the label’s second, and last, female member.
The closed funeral began at 11 a.m., and while more than 1,000 friends and relatives packed into the brick house of worship, the street outside was overflowing with nearly 1,500 fans paying tribute to the bounce legend. Many were wearing shirts in praise of Shorty (born Renetta Lowe), 28, with messages such as “R.I.P. Magnolia Shorty” and “We Love You Renetta,” as well as buttons that read “Forever ‘Shorty.’ ”
Above, you can watch Teena Marie‘s last interview were she speaks on her relationship with Cash Money Records and also says she is a fan of Lil Wayne and Drake. If you didn’t know, Teena Marie (an R&B singer-songwriter) passed away on Boxing Day 🙁 R.I.P. Lady T.
In other news, Weezy will be appearing in a couple of pre-taped New Year’s Eve Specials that will air on TV this Friday (December 31). One special will be a performance with Nicki Minaj and Cory Gunz on Carson Daly, and the other special will be on BET’s 106 & Park with the whole Young Money fam.
Also, we can be looking out for a Diddy remix to his “Somebody To Love Me” track featuring Wayne and Mary J. Blige, which I hear is coming any day now. Chris Brown will be dropping his single featuring Tunechi and Busta Rhymes called “Look At Me Now” first thing on New Years Day as well.
