Lil Wayne Honored With Global Impact Award At 2023 Pre-GRAMMYs Black Music Collective Event

Earlier this month on February 2nd, Lil Wayne was honored at the Recording Academy Honors, which was presented by the Black Music Collective during GRAMMY 2023 Weekend in Los Angeles, California.

Inside the Hollywood Palladium, DJ Khaled presented Wayne with a Global Impact Award while Drake gave a funny speech in a pre-taped video.

Weezy also gave his own emotional speech after accepting the award were he recalled his mother Jacida Carter wanting him to have a kid as when he goes on long tours with Cash Money Records, she gets lonely.

“Where I’m from, we don’t get honored.”

At the event, Tunechi received a congratulations from Lil Kim and also enjoyed live performances from 2 Chainz (who performed “Duffle Bag Boy“), Swizz Beatz (who performed “Uproar“), and Tyga (who performed “A Milli“).

Due to not being fully happy with his award speech, Tune recorded another video afterwards were he thanked the GRAMMY Awards themselves, Dr. Dre, Missy Elliott, Sylvia Rhone, Deion Sanders, Drake, DJ Khaled, Swizz Beatz, 2 Chainz, Tyga, Busta Rhymes, Spliff Star, Will.I.Am, Rico Love, the fans, and more.

You can check it all out in the clips after the jump below. Congratulations once again to Mr. Carter on this amazing achievement!

In his interview, Weezy spoke on his recording process, ghostwriting for Dr. Dre, being born to rap, why he is the best rapper alive, and shared his thoughts on people saying he is doing too many drugs.

“Everybody talking ’bout ‘the boy on too much drugs, Baby need to take him to rehab’ and all this shit. I want you to know one thing: a junkie can’t do what the fuck I do. Can’t no drug, can’t no bitch, can’t no money faze me. I am the ultimate high. It ain’t what I’m on, it’s what I do, and making great music is what the fuck I do.”

Tune also talked to C. Vernon Coleman II about playing the guitar, believing every album he has put out is a classic, his daughter Reginae Carter, owning all of his publishing and masters, and more!
