Lil Wayne Discusses Time Spent In Prison, Sandy Hook Shootings & More On Jim Rome’s TV Show

Sat, Dec 22, 2012 by Danny M

In the video above, you can watch Lil Wayne‘s full interview with Jim Rome that took place on Jim‘s sports talk show a few days ago on Showtime. Weezy F Baby talked about his time locked up behind bars in Rikers Island back in 2010, Los Angeles Lakers, how he became a fan of the Green Bay Packers, Shaquille O’Neal’s rapping skills, the Lane Kiffin line he rapped on No Ceilings: “smoke weed, talk shit like Lane Kiffin”, problems with today’s NFL games, skateboarding, and more.

At the end of the interview, Tune also started to get a little bit emotional when making sure everyone knew that if there was anything he could ever change in his life, it would be going to jail for gun possession, and the horrible Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings that took place last week.

Lil Wayne has changed so much with his personality and music.
Before prison he would of never said what he said at the end of this clip about getting caught with a gun.
I guess the old Lil Wayne we all fell in love with has really gone.

Wayne didn’t say he would change carrying a gun. He said he would change going to jail for a bs charge in a bs state. I have a couple of theories too about why he said that.
    1. He possibly (even though I know he said he quit cold turkey before he went into jail) went into jail with a syrup/codeine-OPIATE addiction which isn’t that bad as far as OPIATE addictions are concerned. However, since jail has a one size fits all mentality and he was purportedly given methadone maintenance for his syrup habit which is what they also use for heroin addiction; jail got him physically dependent on a drug which is harder than what he was using recreationally. The adverese affects of which probably include the seizures he has suffered and the apparent hairloss due to the long halflife and high drug toxicity of that horrible drug.
    2. He lost his momentum with music. He’s still on top but I think he was in a dope mindstate when he went in and, as a sports man, he probably recognizes momentum in different aspects of life like anyone and realizes that his mood was thrown off by his “vacation” as he has referred to it.
    3. He lost a year of his life, a year with his kids, a birthday and is still feeling the effects of prison through probation and other legal detriments.

p.s. please no stupid people leaving comments about how he was on cocaine and thats why he needed methadone because you really have no idea what you are talking about pharmacologically.

Wayne didn’t soften up, he smartened up. When the gun charge happened he was 25-30 years old, had a few kids, and was at the top of his career..but he was stuck in a jail cell. As hard as a lot of people act, the same people wouldn’t survive in jail. Be stupid and carry an unregistered loaded gun with you, bet you will end up in jail too or worse, dead.

Yeah its his number one regret? As he sits there, red flag out…MOB hat on…love wayne but hate a poser… be one or the other…dont say what is politically correct at the time when all you talk about in your songs is killin, AKs, murder, and red nation (all of which most people doubt you have any connection to…)

Regardless wayne… you dope and we all no you capable of much more..but all this bs you up to lately has really changed you and made you look faker than ever…

@ray_rayYMCMB!!! that may be the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard…what crix is saying is that Wayne should not be feeding off a tradgedy as horrendous as Sandy Hook, when he doesn’t mean the things he says. Its absolutely disgusting actually and I dont think crix hat the balls to say it…wayne doesnt mean anything he just said…he still has guns he still “considers himself a blood” and still supports that lifestyle….he said that he was ashamed of what he got picked up for, because it was the politically correct thing to say…not what he actually feels…wayne needs to find himself again because his music isn’t real anymore…if he means what he said about being ashamed…he should start rapping about how the world needs to change…not about “hammer on the dresser, work on the stove” becuase not only are those things not true in Waynes case, he is just supporting a lifestyle that promotes this type of disgusting behavior that was displayed in Sandy Hook.

From a person who truly means it… Sandy Hook, my heart goes out to you.

i salute wayne on the sandy hook tribute, that shit gave me chills. dont talk about him being a “fake gangster” or a “fake blood” cause thats just not true to be completely honest. he may not be the dude he once was but life is about progressively learning from your mistakes and thats all hes doing. im sure none of you would question his reputation as a blood or “gangster” back during the hotboys days, because he was a real blood and gangster back then, hes not just trying to affiliate himself with something hes not apart of and even if he has learned from his mistakes he still talks about being a blood and all this its not like he dropped being a blood after he blew up. i will say he kinda contradicts himself by doing the whole sandy hook tribute thing and then talk about killing babies and women in his raps, but thats neither here nor there. atleast he acknowledged it unlike alot of other rappers have done, if you look at recent interviews of rappers since this tragedy has happened no one acknowledged it like wayne did, no one wrote sandy hook on their tshirt, writing it on his tshirt doesnt make it better than anyone else but its more acknowledgment than any other rapper ive seen (correct me if im wrong) and you can tell he was completely genuine about it. its one thing tweeting about it but he really tried to show that he understands his mistake and feels bad about what happened, and i really think wayne has turned a corner. i dont think wayne is lyrically on point like he was before jail same with his flow and delivery, but id rather his verses be not as good instead of him being addicted to opiates and whatever the hell else he was doing. salute
